Immediate loading

What are immediate load dental implants?

TEETH IN ONE DAY

Immediate load implants are indicated for those who suffer the loss of one or more teeth and have an esthetic concern.

With this technique we place all the implants the same day of the intervention and, after the intervention or after the first 24 to 48 hours, a provisional fixed prosthesis is placed to start enjoying a new smile. By performing the surgery in this way, we manage to reduce the number of surgical interventions.

What steps do we follow?

WE DON’T DO MAGIC: TEETH IN ONE DAY

Immediate loading can be performed on the whole mouth or only on one tooth. When the patient comes to the dental office for the placement of immediate implants with immediate loading, the first thing to be done is an x-ray and a detailed study of the case. But once the correct technique to be used has been assessed, the procedure to be followed is as follows:

– Extraction of all damaged teeth.

– Placement of these implants and a fixed provisional prosthesis on the implants “the same day”. Hence the name “immediate”. We write “the same day” in quotation marks because, depending on the case, the provisional tooth can be placed in the same intervention just after placing the implant or 24 hours after placing it, depending on each case.

– A time of about 3 months is expected for the implant to achieve perfect osseointegration with the bone (stable biological union). During this time the patient lives a normal life (eats, talks, smiles, etc) and will only have to come for monthly check-ups.

– Finally, the provisional resin prosthesis is replaced by a definitive porcelain prosthesis designed specifically for the patient and to achieve maximum esthetics and durability.

For those patients who are going to undergo an intervention of 3 or more implants, as well as those who require a periodontal intervention of bone or soft tissue regeneration, we will perform them under sedation and monitoring controlled by our medical service of anesthesiologists.

There are many cases in which, due to a long period of time without replacing lost teeth through implant surgery, the dimensions of the maxillary bones decrease in height and width. This progressive atrophy is due to the fact that the bone, having neither teeth nor implants, has no information that it has to be there to hold anything, so, little by little, it disappears. Each year that passes without starting treatment, the more complicated it becomes.

In the upper jaw, apart from the loss of transversal dimension, whose treatment is quite complex and may even require bone grafts from its own chin or mandibular branch, we may have loss of vertical dimension, where we must perform a technique, increasingly common, called maxillary sinus elevation.

Advantages of immediate loading

Some of the advantages:

  • Wear a temporary fixed prosthesis within a maximum period of 48 hours without the need to wear other removable prostheses, which facilitates the adaptation – progressively – to the definitive prosthesis.
  • It allows us to partially recover the functionality of the mouth. The provisional prosthesis allows us to improve esthetics, chewing and phonation.
  • You won’t have to wait to show off your teeth and your new smile.
